Closer to the ultimate desktop experience.
Well, I cribbed about my hard disk issues and about the garnome build failing.... but on Saturday, I still persisted with the same process for almost half a day with the breaks and halts (read: broken dependencies) that are somewhat typical of compiling stuff on Linux. To be fair, the whole process is much more organized this time though since the readme has the answers to most of the compilation failure and workarounds. Finally, the point I was coming to is.... the result is sweet. Gnome 2.8 is up and running in its full glory on my laptop and a visit to art.gnome.org (after a looooong time) has given loads of eye-candy to these eyes that had gone sore with the repeated sky blue screen... Best icon theme seen in recent times: Gartoon. Its a must see for those who liked Noia earlier. Kreski lines is interesting too.... though it does not have enough icons for the Gnome start menu yet. Yay!!
